Google Home is a voice-activated speaker powered by the Google Assistant. You can ask it questions, play your music and help manage everyday tasks.

How can I get Google Home?

We have a number of options available:

Outright: You can purchase Google Home outright at anytime, either online or during trading hours in-store.

Afterpay: Google Home can be purchased at anytime using Afterpay - online only. 

Payment Over Time ($8 per month): You can opt to pay for Google Home through repayments added to your Optus bill when you sign up for a new service or recontract your existing service to an eligible 24 month plan. The cost of the Google Home will be spread over 24 monthly repayments added to your Optus bill. This can be done in-store (with an eligible Mobile, Mobile Broadband or Fixed product) or via Sales over the phone (eligible Fixed services only).

Upfront Payment on Optus Bill: When you sign up for a new service or recontract your existing service to an eligible 24 month plan, you can opt to pay for your Google Home device in one lump sum payment on your next Optus bill. This can be done in-store (with an eligible Mobile, Mobile Broadband or Fixed product) or via Sales over the phone (Eligible Fixed services only).

Optus Assistant App

If you have an Optus Postpaid Mobile Phone service you can use the Optus Assistant App, by linking your service to your Google Home or eligible Android smartphone, and enable it to answer general questions about your service including usage, billing and travelling options.

How to Link your Optus Service

Note. You need to have an Optus Postpaid (on a plan) Mobile Phone service to be eligible.

To link your Optus service follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Explore section within your Google Home app to view available apps

  2. Select the Optus app

  3. You will be taken to a webpage to validate your service. Enter your Postpaid Mobile service number

  4. You will be sent a PIN to your mobile that needs to be entered to validate your service

  5. Once you have validated your service you can check if it's working by asking “Ok Google, talk to Optus”

    • If Optus introduces itself then your account has been linked

Google Home

A. If you have taken the Payment Over Time option then an $8 per month charge will appear on your account for your Google Home device for 24 months.

If you have taken the Upfront Payment option, then a charge will appear on your next Home Broadband account.

A. If you need assistance with your Google Home device please visit the Google Home support page by Google. Live Chat support is also available through this page.

Optus Assistant

A. Currently, we offer general conversations around billing, usage and travelling, with plans to add to this. If you experience difficulty when talking about your usage and/or billing enquiries it may be that your plan is not supported as only My Plan Plus plan configurations are available at this time. If some information cannot be retrieved when using the Optus Assistant App, you can use the My Optus app on your phone instead.

A. The Optus Assistant app can tell you about your usage, billing and travelling options for your linked Postpaid Mobile Account with Optus. For example, you can ask the Optus Assistant app, if you have any amount due on your bill and when it will be due.

A. No, at this stage it is not available through the Google Assistant. You can use the My Optus App to pay your bill if required.
